Dobb Cottages
The 4 storey local-stone building housing Crosland and Hinchlif Cottages is about 200 years old. Two-storey Crosland Cottage - the “overdwelling”, sits atop above 2 storey Hinchlif Cottage - the "underdwelling". The cottages are located in Holmbridge, less than a mile upstream of Holmfirth - and much quieter!
In the early 1800s, each 1-up, 1-down cottage would house families working in the valley’s woolen mills. Over the valley across Holmbridge, you'll see many similar homes, as well as weavers' cottages, with rows of upper storey windows designed to light the rooms where looms and spinning wheels were housed.
